SINGAPORE STRENGTHENS PRODUCT SAFETY CONTROLS: WHAT VIETNAMESE EXPORTERS NEED TO KNOW

Singapore is strengthening its product safety controls through two key regulations: the Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations (CPSR) and the Consumer Goods (Safety Requirements) Regulations (CGSR). For exporters, these requirements go beyond product compliance. They can also affect delivery schedules, logistics costs, and supply chain reliability. 1. Singapore Strengthens Product Safety Requirements According to information published by Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, Singapore applies two main regulatory frameworks for product safety. – CPSR: Covers 33 categories of controlled goods, including electrical and electronic products, household appliances, and gas appliances. Products within scope must meet applicable safety requirements, complete registration, and carry the SAFETY Mark before being supplied or sold in Singapore. – CGSR: Covers general consumer goods such as toys, clothing, furniture, and sports equipment, which must comply with the relevant safety standards. Non-compliant products may be subject to sales restrictions or recalls. Businesses that violate applicable requirements may also face penalties. For exporters, checking compliance requirements before shipment is essential. Addressing documentation or registration issues early can help avoid costly adjustments after cargo has already left the port of origin. 2. Potential Impact on Southeast Asia’s Trade and Logistics Singapore plays an important role in Southeast Asia’s trade and logistics network. Tighter product safety controls may require exporters, importers, and distributors to review their procedures for placing goods on the Singapore market. Several potential risks deserve attention: – Delivery delays: Incomplete documentation or missing certificates may affect cargo acceptance and delivery schedules. – Additional logistics costs: Delays in resolving compliance issues may lead to storage, port handling, or additional transportation costs. – Disrupted distribution plans: Late deliveries can affect inventory planning, distribution schedules, and commitments to business partners. These requirements do not automatically apply across all ASEAN markets. However, they highlight the importance of understanding the specific regulations of each destination country when planning regional trade and distribution. 3. What Should Vietnamese Exporters Prepare? For Vietnamese businesses exporting to Singapore, compliance checks should take place before shipment arrangements are finalized. Exporters should determine whether their products fall under CPSR or CGSR, verify the applicable safety standards and registration requirements, and clarify responsibilities with their Singaporean importers. Documentation preparation should also be factored into the shipping schedule. If an issue is discovered only after cargo arrives at the destination port, businesses may need to manage several challenges simultaneously, including delivery delays, additional costs, and changes to distribution plans. A reliable shipping plan therefore involves more than selecting the right route or sailing schedule. It also requires anticipating potential obstacles before the cargo reaches its destination. 4. Managing Risks Through Early Planning Not every risk in international shipping can be eliminated, but many disruptions can be reduced through early preparation. Reviewing cargo information, documentation, shipping schedules, and destination requirements helps all parties make better-informed decisions. For shipments to Singapore, close coordination among exporters, importers, agents, and logistics providers helps maintain visibility over shipment readiness, address changes, and adjust plans when necessary. At Vantage Logistics, international transportation planning takes into account the practical requirements of each shipment and the coordination needed among relevant parties. This approach helps businesses manage potential disruptions and maintain better control over delivery schedules. As market requirements evolve, careful preparation does more than protect an individual shipment. It also helps businesses maintain reliable supply chains and build lasting partnerships across international markets.

A GUIDE TO SHIPPING CONTAINER TYPES: DIMENSIONS, CAPACITY AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Choosing the right shipping container depends on the cargo’s dimensions, characteristics, weight and handling requirements. Understanding container specifications helps businesses determine the most suitable equipment and plan cargo loading more effectively. This guide provides a quick reference to 12 container types, covering their dimensions, internal volume and key weight specifications. Key Considerations When Selecting a Shipping Container Check the internal dimensions: Use the container’s internal dimensions to calculate the available loading space. Compare the cargo’s length, width and height against the usable internal dimensions, allowing for the clearance needed for loading and unloading Understand payload and gross weight limits: Payload refers to the maximum cargo weight a container is designed to carry, while maximum gross weight includes both the container’s tare weight and the cargo. For inland transportation, also check the applicable vehicle weight limits and road regulations along the planned route Inspect the container before loading: Check the container’s exterior, floor and doors for damage or signs of water ingress. For refrigerated containers, verify that the refrigeration unit is operating properly and that the required temperature can be maintained for the cargo Note: Specifications may vary by container model and manufacturer. Always check the equipment plate on the assigned container before loading.   Contact Vantage Logistics for tailored transport solutions and competitive quotations. VANTAGE LOGISTICS – INTEGRATED CROSS-BORDER TRANSPORT SOLUTIONS IN THE MEKONG REGION

Connecting supply chains across Viet Nam, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand through synchronized maritime-road corridors and cross-border transit customs. In manufacturing and international trade, moving raw materials, components, and finished goods across Mekong countries requires a balance between delivery speed and logistics costs. Compared to sea freight, cross-border trucking reduces transit times significantly. However, the most critical operational challenges involve transit customs procedures and differing axle-load regulations across jurisdictions. A minor documentation discrepancy at the border or an axle-load calculation error can cause border congestion and incur substantial truck demurrage fees. Vantage Logistics delivers integrated Cross-Border Logistics solutions, combining multimodal connectivity, strict regulatory compliance, and localized operational management: 1. Flexible Transport Configurations Tailored to project budgets, delivery schedules, and vehicle circulation regulations across each market, Vantage Logistics deploys adaptable transport options: Border Transshipment (Back-to-Back Trucking): Coordinating cargo transfers or prime mover swaps at key border checkpoints (such as Moc Bai / Bavet and Lao Bao / Dansavanh) to optimize operating costs when vehicles are restricted from operating deep into the destination country Direct Cross-Border Trucking: Providing vehicles with valid international road transport permits and logbooks, ensuring seamless door-to-door delivery from dispatch facility to consignee warehouse Cross-Border Axle-Load Compliance: Calculating and distributing cargo weight in strict accordance with national regulations across Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Laos, preventing fines or forced offloading at border weigh stations Bonded Trucking: Managing cargo transit under customs supervision with intact customs seals from seaports to export border checkpoints or designated bonded facilities 24/7 GPS Tracking: Delivering real-time vehicle positioning to monitor route progress, milestone checkpoints, and actual on-site delivery 2. Transit Customs Clearance & GMS Framework Expertise Synchronizing documentation workflows to maintain uninterrupted cross-border cargo flow: Multilateral Transport Frameworks (GMS & Bilateral Agreements): Assisting clients in completing applications for cross-border transport permits and logbooks under the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Cross-Border Transport Agreement and bilateral road transport pacts between Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Laos Pre-Arrival Document Synchronization: Closely coordinating between documentation teams in Viet Nam and our Phnom Penh branch office / localized partner networks to cross-check transit declarations and commercial invoices before vehicles arrive at the border, minimizing wait times at border checkpoints Transit Customs Clearance via Viet Nam: Managing customs transit declarations for international shipments moving through Viet Nam’s major seaports (Cat Lai, Cai Mep, Hai Phong, Da Nang) to Cambodia, Laos, and vice versa Quarantine & Tariff Consultation: Representing cargo owners in specialized inspections (phytosanitary and veterinary quarantine) at international border gates; advising on HS code classification and verifying the validity of Certificate of Origin (C/O Form D) under the ATIGA framework to ensure applicable tariff preferences Proof of Delivery (POD) Management: Collecting, reviewing, and delivering official POD documents endorsed by customs authorities at both borders for tax finalization, while providing advisory support on local road tolls and regional fiscal requirements 3. Multimodal Transport Connectivity Beyond road transport, Vantage Logistics bridges cross-border corridors with international ocean freight loops to expand regional reach: Regional Export Gateway Support: Facilitating overland cargo movement from Cambodia and Laos to Viet Nam’s major seaport hubs, connecting regional exports with mainline ocean carriers bound for global destinations Project Cargo & Heavy Machinery Coordination: Mobilizing specialized equipment in coordination with our in-house Project Logistics technical team for oversized/overweight machinery, industrial plant equipment, and temporary import/re-export shipments 4. Commercial Value for Businesses Transit Time Optimization: Reducing transit time on key corridors – such as Viet Nam to Cambodia within 1–2 days (compared to 5–8 days by sea) – securing continuous raw material flow for manufacturing lines Cost Efficiency: Delivering substantial cost savings compared to air freight while meeting rapid delivery requirements across diverse cargo categories Direct Localized Presence: Backed by 5 branch offices in Viet Nam (Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Qui Nhon) and an established branch office in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Vantage Logistics ensures rapid problem resolution and on-site support without reliance on third-party intermediaries Looking for an optimal transport solution between Viet Nam, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand? Vantage Chartered Flights to Carry Face Masks To USA

Covid-19 epidemic keeps spreading fast on the world, especially in the Americas and Europe, the demand for personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves, gowns… increasingly high. This period is considered both a business opportunity and a challenge for Vietnamese businesses. This opportunity and challenge are not only in manufacturing but also in logistics and transportation, especially in air freight since airlines are cutting down capacity or even halting international flights. Facing the rushing need of transporting a shipment of 16 million masks which were packed in 6400 cartons to the US, Vantage’s team had come up with several options in-line with customers’ expectations: fast, safe, convenient, reasonable cost and effective; and charter flight solution was selected. A plan to charter the whole flight has been specifically evaluated and implemented urgently. Within 5 days, Vantage had successfully arranged to have 2 chartered flights (B777F and B777-300 Pax) departing from Tan Son Nhat Airport (SGN) on Sunday, June 28 evening, transiting via Taipei (to change flight crew and add fuel), and arriving at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) early Monday morning, June 29 so customers can take cargo out the same day. With the working motto of serving – supporting – solving problems for customers, Vantage team was like being reinvigorated when contributing to the success of customers. This can be considered the achievement of our team’s outstanding effort to support and deliver the best service to our customers during this difficult time. Launching A Direct Container Shipping Route From Qui Nhon To China And Northeast Asia, Vantage Contributes To Solutions Of Developing Import-Export Economy For Northern Cambodia, Southern Laos And The Central and Highland of Viet Nam

China, a country of more than 1.4 billion people, has a huge demand for fruits, of which tropical fruits are accounting for 30 million tons/year while Bananas take 50% of these, about 15 million tons/year. Previously, China’s main tropical fruit growing areas were Yunnan, Hainan, Western Guangdong, and Guangxi provinces. Recently, due to climate change, culturing areas in China have been shrinking and could only be harvested in the summer. In order to meet consumer demand, China had to switch to growing crops or buying tropical fruits from Southeast Asian countries, of which Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia are the major suppliers because of good soil and planting. These fruits suit Chinese consumers’ tastes, and are geographically advantageous, so the transportation costs are quite suitable. Dragon fruit, jackfruit, etc… are also the main export fruits to China Regardless of this, the export of fruits to China by Vietnam – Laos, and Cambodia is challenging though, especially during the 19 COVID season. The first difficulty is the transport route. Since Cat Lai port, Ho Chi Minh City holds major container cargo volume, especially reefer containers, all of the goods go through Cat Lai port causes continuous congestion and only a small incident like a ship missing her berth schedule 1-2 days, a collision in the channel immediately create big congestion which makes the entire operations delay, trucks, barges, vessels cannot load/discharge being under detention and cannot perform the next trip, causing the sequential effect to harvest, shipping, export plan… while fruits are perishable commodities that need fast delivery. The second difficulty is the transportation distance. For planting areas nearby Ho Chi Minh City such as Mekong Delta or central – southern Cambodia, transporting to the port of HCMC is relatively close, but for the Highlands and Central areas of Vietnam, northern Cambodia or Southern Laos, transport to Cat Lai port will be several hundred km further than to other port in the Central, and this distance must be doubled due to two-way transportation: take empty containers to planting areas to load, and return laden containers back to the port for export. The third difficulty is the cost. Of course, a longer distance will definitely take a longer travel time with a higher cost, adding to that, congestion in port insert a lot of idling time in a round trip. When vehicles cannot optimize the operation, obviously transportation costs will be high. During the epidemic season, governments impose a lot of methods to control and prevent the virus spreading, including the limit of time to cross the border every day, health control stops to check driver’s temperature and document, regulations on personal protection equipment, banning drivers and customs agents to cross the border,  helping to protect health for personnel but on the other hand, there are many difficulties in trading activities. After several months providing logistics solutions for the fruit market, Vantage immediately made many adjustments and reorganized the supply chain to help fruit producers and exporters reduced logistics costs from 8 to 15%, increased the competitiveness of Southeast Asian fruits in the China market. Specifically, Vantage has boldly signed a guarantee to ensure the minimum volume for shipping lines to bring ships and provide direct service from Quy Nhon port to China with the transit time of only 6-11 days (compared to the current transshipment service which takes from 13 to 23 days). Besides, Vantage had actively proposed to customers to re-allocate the agricultural materials supply area to optimize the transport of agricultural materials and fruits. Vantage has invested in refrigerated container yards and lifting equipment at the main border gates of Hoa Lu, Le Thanh, Bo Y to shift containers between vehicles quickly and safely. Moreover, Vantage has also invested and managed a multi-owner truck-fleet to serve across Vietnam – Laos – Cambodia route starting from 200 units and will increase to over 1,000 units in the future, meanwhile, we mobilized skilled drivers to neighbor countries, accepted their national requirements of quarantine regulations to ensure that goods flow smoothly during the Covid-19 period. Thanks to the enthusiasm, extensive knowledge, good practical knowledge, high determination and active cooperation of customers, especially Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group, port partners, especially Quy Nhon port, truck owners, shipping lines… the first voyages always exceeded the committed volume by nearly 100%, demonstrating the effectiveness of the solution, all participating partners were satisfied. The direct service from Qui Nhon Port to China opening up prospects for even more success for the business as well as increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese fruits exporting to China market From this success, this new and efficient transport route has attracted many other import and export customers in the Central and Highlands, Northern Cambodia and Southern Laos, not only between Vietnam – Laos – Cambodia, and China but also other Northeast Asian countries. Manufacturers and traders of fertilizers, agricultural materials, wood chips, wood pellets, tapioca starch … are very excited because the transport time is significantly reduced compared to the previous period, and the cost also significantly reduced, opening up prospects for even more success for the business. As for Vantage, we are still working day and night finding better, more advanced, and more beneficial solutions for our customers, because our customers’ success is our success. Exporting Mask and Medical Protective Equipment: Tight Space for Air Cargo and The Solutions

In the situation of COVID-19 pandemic complicated outbreaks in Europe and the Americas, many countries are forced to increase the import of masks and medical protective equipment such as gloves, gowns, etc… Vietnamese enterprises have quickly taken advantages of this opportunity to make up for some difficulties that the pandemic had caused. Business opportunity due to huge market demand According to the information from the European-American Market Department, The Ministry of Industry and Trade, many countries in Europe and the Americas are in need of importing masks, PPE for control and prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic which is more and more complicated in these areas. In particular, the US market now needs to import about 500 million N95 masks, 200 million masks of all kinds, 1 billion gloves, 100 million sets of medical gowns, 50 million sets of PPE, etc… Other markets such as Spain, Kazakhstan, Canada, Russia… are also in urgent need of importing masks and medical protective equipment. Current difficulties that Vietnam exporters are facing Along with business opportunities, Vietnam exporters in general and exporters of masks and PPE in particular, are facing many difficulties caused by COVID-19 pandemic, especially the difficulty of freight transport when the international cargo capacity of both sea freight and air freight is decreasing. For masks and medical protective equipment that are in great demand and urgent need, delivery by air freight is a priority option. However, the global air cargo capacity has decreased since the airlines had cut the number of flights due to the effect of COVID-19. Accordingly, the total global air cargo capacity decreased by 26% compared to the same period last year, while in Vietnam, airlines have cut 15-20% of the number of flights, some airlines flying to the US had completely stopped. Export delivery demand is rapidly increasing while air freight space dramatically decreased is really a big challenge. Solutions for air freight from Vantage Logistics Keeping up with the movement of the market as well as the needs of customers in the current period, with experience and professional skills, Vantage Logistics has come up with effective solutions to help customers to smoothly transport their goods at reasonable costs. An example is our safe and successful delivery of 5×40’HC containers of medical gowns exported to Los Angeles, US on May 29. The shipment of 298.4 thousand gowns was packed in 2,615 cartons, the total weight of 27 tons, equivalent to 250CBMs, needs only 3 days from ex-work till arrival at Los Angeles airport during the period that it takes at least 8-10 days for similar shipments. This can be considered the achievement of our team’s outstanding effort to support and deliver the best service to our customers during this difficult time. Solution for Exporting Vietnamese Agricultural Products to China During the Border Congestion?

The complicated evolution of acute pneumonia caused by the new strain of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (referred to as COVID-19 pandemic) is not only has a huge impact on people’s health and daily-life but also seriously affects economic trade between countries on over the world. In particular, Vietnam’s agricultural export industry is one of the sectors greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Agricultural products are considered as one of the main export items of Vietnam, and China is one of the main buyers of Vietnam agricultural products, accounting for 22-24% of the import proportion. Thanks to the geography position, the export of Vietnamese agricultural products to the world’s most populous market is pretty convenient through the border gates between the two countries. A lot of vehicles of agricultural products exporting to China were congested in border gates. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the trade circuit between the two countries was limited, China announced to shorten open time at Tan Thanh and Coc Nam border from 8 down to 5 hours per day and close on weekends. China only accepts import-export of cargo through 5 border gates in Lang Son province, in particular, as per notice from Pingxiang authority, from 7 Apr 2020, secondary gates Tan Thanh and Coc Nam only work 5 hours/day (8 to 11:00, 12 to 14:00) and close on Saturday Sunday and holidays. China only maintains import via 5 borders: Friendship, Dong Dang International Railway Station, Chi Ma, Tan Thanh, Coc Nam. Other small border gates are close and impose strict pandemic control on border trades. Specifically, as of the beginning of April 2020, there are about 700 vehicles of agricultural products congesting at Tan Thanh border gate, 600 vehicles at Huu Nghi border gate; this congestion has a huge impact on Vietnamese agricultural exporters, causing decrease of cargo quality and increase a lot of cost. Vantage Logistics has developed an alternative logistics solution for transporting agricultural products to China, minimize the congestion at borders. This is a 1-stop-shop logistics solution by incorporating with shipping lines and trucking partners, building a warehouse to meet the conditions for storing agricultural products at border gates, working with authorities to constantly update the situation of customs clearance, in order to optimize transport time and cost. *** For more detailed advice on logistics solution for agricultural exports to China, please contact our experts: – Vietnamese/English speaking: + Mrs. Queenie Lâm (Operations Manager) – Email: qu********@*******************om.vn / +84 908 798 685 + Mr. Joe Nguyễn (Business Development Executive) – Email: jo*****@*******************om.vn / +84 383 037 493 + Ms. Aster Huỳnh (BOM’s Assistant) –Email:  as*******@*******************om.vn – Chinese speaking: + Mr. Billy Lưu (Sales Manager) – Email: bi******@*******************om.vn / +84 938 189 278 + Mrs. Audrey Lương (Trucking Coordinator) – Email: tr***********@*******************om.vn...

Vantage Provides Logistics Service for Ship Husbandry Service

In order to meet the market and shipowner’s demand, Vantage provides logistics services for Ship husbandry serviceIt is very important for ships and cruises to be supplied with necessary stuffs, clean water, fresh foods, fuel… as well as completed customs clearance procedures in a timely and legal manner when berthing in any country. Therefore, the need of having a local service provider capable to provide logistics service for ship husbandry services with cost-effectiveness and timely delivery, as the time of ship berthing in port is rather limited. Vantage just delivered 2 shipments for 5-star cruise Costa neoRomantica at Da Nang port in February. The Costa neoRomancita cruise at Da Nang port The 2 shipments of cosmetic products for Spa were sent from UK (1 package – 119kgs) and US (3 packages – 165kgs) by airway to Danang Airport and delivered onboard by the term of temporary import. Per customs’ regulations, these commodities are subject to Ministry of Industry and Trade’s permission, so upon receiving the information of the shipments, Vantage had proactively applied permit from authority and submitted to Customs to complete the procedures of temporary import at Da Nang Airport. And both shipments were to be physically checked by customs, Vantage’s team actively coordinated with all parties to prepare all necessary documents for customs inspection, preventing any delay that could cause to costs and risk of not catching the cruise before she departs. Since this is a cruise, her schedule is not fixed so it is a huge pressure on Vantage team to deliver the shipments on-time when the cruise arrives at the port; moreover, the delivery time was right at the time of the acute respiratory infection caused by a new strain of Coronavirus (officially name  COVID-19) starting to explode all over the world, the epidemic prevention and control activities were actively deployed on throughout the country so that all procedures relating to delivery and customs clearance are tightened. In the context of both urgent time, and ensuring the health and safety of employees, this is also one of the major difficulties for the team in charge of Vantage. To do that, Vantage had raced against time as well as actively connected with related parties such as port dispatchers, border guards, and Customs authorities so that the delivery could take place most favorably. After completing the temporary import procedures, both shipments were delivered to Da Nang port to implement the re-export procedures and loaded on board on February 13, 2020. Although this is not the large-scale shipment, but due to commodity and peculiar schedule of the cruise, the procedures of receipt and delivery of the shipments were pretty complicated, the on-time delivery of goods as requirements of the shipowner is a testament to the professionalism and devotion to the work and customer’s success of Vantage’s staff....
